Three children dead in flats blaze

Six people, including three children, have died in a fire that swept through a block of flats in south London.

A three-week-old baby, a six-year-old and and a seven-year-old died along with three adults.

Pensioner bankruptcy level soaring

The number of pensioners being declared bankrupt has soared by 164% during the past five years, research has shown.

A total of 2,595 people aged over 65 went bankrupt during 2008, up from only 983 in 2004, according to accountancy firm Wilkins Kennedy.

A man whose girlfriend burnt to death in a car after he crashed into a tree while drunk has been jailed for six years.

Waqas Arshad, 24, of Bedfordshire, escaped the Citroen C4 after he ploughed into a tree in November last year but 17-year-old Emily Brady perished in the blaze.
