Wilkin ready to resolve Brown future

ANDY Brown’s Nuneaton Town future will be decided this week as the clock runs down on his loan spell from AFC Telford United.

The striker is eligible to play in Saturday’s trip to FC Halifax Town but his loan expires the next day and manager Kevin Wilkin says any extension to the deal must be arranged before the weekend.

Speaking ahead of training last night, he said: “I’ve spoken to the chairman (Ian Neale) about it and I’ll speak to Browny more at training.

“When we know what he wants to do we’ll sort it all out either way. I want it to be resolved before the weekend and it goes without saying that I would like Andy to stay.

“We’ve got good options in attack as it stands and I would like to maintain that. I can pick two or three from five at the moment and that’s what I want.”

Brown’s return to the club from Blue Square Bet Premier side Telford has seen Danny Glover relegated to the bench for the last two games.

Glover came on to score both goals in Saturday’s 2-1 win against Vauxhall Motors, something Wilkin feels highlights the importance of having good players on the bench.

“We saw the value of a strong bench on Saturday. The importance of having  players ready to come on and change a game was shown,” he said.

At the time of going to print, Wilkin did not expect any bids to come in for any of his players on transfer deadline day.

Blue Square Bet North clubs are not subject to the deadline when it comes to signing players, but higher league clubs must sign them before the cut off point if they are on contract.

Striker Wes York has heavily been linked with a move away in recent weeks but that looks to be off the agenda. However, it is believed Championship clubs still retain an interest in the league player of the month for December.
