No discipline problem - Mark Noon's Weekly Column

NUNEATON Town skipper Mark Noon was unable to contribute his column this week. Vice-captain Stuart Pierpoint kindly agreed to fill in.

“A lot of has been made of the team’s disciplinary record in the early weeks of the season. Obviously three red cards in six games is not good and it is something we are going to have to address.

However, we don’t have a disciplinary problem - our good record of last season shows that. I feel the red cards we have received are three isolated incidents that have been remarkable because of how close together they have happened.

All three have been because of stupid decisions in the heat of the moment and that is the thing we will cut out. There is no excuse for it, but we know we can’t get involved in situations that are nothing to do with us.

I can’t speak for the rest of the team, but of course there are times when you are playing where you have to take a step back and calm yourself down. Monday’s game against Telford was such a big game with plenty of hype. We all wanted to do well but unfortunately the result went against us.

We were beaten 4-1 but I feel that flattered them. Don’t get me wrong, Telford are a good side and they will be up there come the end of the season, but I felt we were matching them well, particularly before Kyle Storer’s sending off. We started brightly and I felt we had every chance, but with 10 it’s an uphill task.

The key now is to bounce back with a result at Worcester City on Saturday. Confidence is high in the squad and I’m sure that can happen.

Hopefully Monday’s loss was just a blip. We’ve started really well and any point we’ve dropped has been pretty much because of mistakes on our part.

We’ll react in the right way to defeat and we’ll be ready to go again.

It will be a tough game but everyone is at the moment. Every team in the league looks strong bar Redditch at the minute.
