Moore sure Boro will recover

MATT DAVIES
NUNEATON Town striker Lee Moore is confident the team will bounce back swiftly after suffering their first defeat of the season.

Boro lost 4-1 to Moore’s former club AFC Telford United on Bank Holiday Monday – their only loss in six Blue Square North games.

However, Moore is sure Kevin Wilkin’s men can recover with a win against Worcester City on Saturday after a promising start to the campaign.

He said: “We’ve had a good start. Losing to Telford isn’t the worst result in the world.

“The question is how we bounce back. I think we’ll do that with a win.

“The gaffer has told us that’s what we need to do now.

“We’ll react and get a result. It doesn’t matter who you lose to – a loss is a loss.

“I would like to have beaten Telford, but I like to win everywhere. That’s what we’ll be looking to do on Saturday.” Meanwhile, Moore says he is working to become more prolific by swapping his reputation for prolific strikes for six yard ones.

He has found the net three times this season with all three goals coming from close range.

“The gaffer has been telling me to get in the six yard box more because I’m working too much down the outside.

“That’s probably my downfall and the reason I don’t get so many goals. He told me to get in there and I can score more.

“That’s how you’re judged so I’m hoping to get a few more like that.” Moore is also happy to continue his improving his partnership with Justin Marsden, who got Nuneaton’s consolation on Monday.

“I’ve always had a good relationship with Justin when we play upfront. People think you can’t play too quick strikers but me and Justin aren’t exactly poor in the air.

“We can win our headers and hold the ball up so there is a good partnership there.” Moore admits team-mate Kyle Storer’s sending off had a major impact on the Telford game with Boro trailing 1-0 at the time.

“We all know Stores plays like that. He plays on the edge and we don’t want to take that from his game.

“He’ll feel that he let us down but that’s how it pans out sometimes. The problem was their lad should have gone as well.

“He kicked me when the ball was nowhere near him. As the ref came on we thought he would send their lad on.

“It didn’t happen and he sent one of our lads off. “We would have accepted two sendings off as he kicked me. The ref bottled it in my opinion.

“It was always going to be tough here – Telford are a good team. With 11 men I think we would have won though.

“It’s a shame. I think the scoreline flattered them. There were some good finishes from them when we were chasing the game.

“The fans were brilliant to give us such a great ovation after losing it 4-1,” he said.
