Boro discover Spencer fate

MATT DAVIES
NUNEATON Town have finally learned the full extent of Danny Spencer’s suspension for his red cards against Leamington and Droylsden.

The Boro striker has been banned for 35 days for his dismissal in the Leamington friendly at the start of last month, while his three match ban for seeing red against Droylsden starts this weekend.

One slight boost for the club is the fact the former Brackley Town man’s other ban starts on Monday — meaning the second and third games of the Droyslden suspension is absorbed into the 35 days.

However, manager Kevin Wilkin says that is little consolation as his patience grows thin with players getting sent-off this season.

Spencer, defender Guy Hadland and midfielder Kyle Storer have all gone for violent conduct in the first six games of the Blue Square Bet North season.

Wilkin said: “It’s disappointing to have lost Danny for so long for needless red cards. The big disappointment for me this season has been the manner in which people have been sent-off.

“I struggle to deal with it. If someone raises their hands as we have seen this season then I’ve no problem with referees sending players off.

“There is no place for it and it won’t be tolerated for much longer. People have to appreciate the seriousness of what it means and how the club looks.” Surprisingly, Storer is only facing a one-match ban for his red card against Telford, although the club is yet to receive official paperwork from the FA according to Wilkin.

Meanwhile, Wilkin has revealed some fringe players may be leaving the club in loan deals.

Though he did not name names, midfielder Tom Bates and strikers Tom Berwick and Aden Moore are all yet to make a single appearance this season.

Wilkin says he will discuss loan moves with the relevant players at training tonight, however, he feels they could get their chance if they remain patient.

“Letting a couple go out on loan is a possibility. I’ll be speaking to some of the lads to see what they want to do.

“We’ve got suspensions coming up and there could be injuries as well, you never know unfortunately. I think chances will be there because of that.

“It’s about being patient. One thing I would say is that the attitude of the players who haven’t featured has been spot on.

“It’s disappointing for players not to be in the 16 as they can’t affect the game.

“They aren’t doing anyone any favours being in the stand, but they’ve not moaned about it at all,” he said.
