A HUNT is on for a large group of eastern European people involved in a mass distraction burglary at a store.

A group of seven people - five women and two men - walked into the Co-op store in Wood End, Atherstone.

The women, who were wearing long flowing skirts and had long black hair tied from their faces, spoke with very poor English and distracted staff by asking repeated questions about items for sale in the store.

It was while the women distracted staff that one of the group walked into the post office area and stole cash, including notes and coins, before re-joining the main group who then left the store in a hurry.

Atherstone police are now trying to trace the gang and would like to speak to anyone who saw a green BMW outside the shop at around 5.20pm on Friday, May 18.

Anyone with any information should contact Atherstone Police Station on 01827 718 092 or the Crimestoppers hotline, which is free and confidential, on 0800 555 111.
