Superstitions aid quest for success
British hopeful Heather Watson has adopted a few superstitions in her quest for success, she has revealed.
The 20-year-old, who has become the first British woman to reach Wimbledon's third round in a decade, confessed she has been eating eggs and smoked salmon for breakfast all week.
Watson, from Guernsey, became the first British woman to win a match on centre court since 1985 with her opening game on Monday.
She then overcame America's Jamie Lee Hampton with a 6-1 6-4 win to get through to the grand slam's third round.
She said: "I've been having eggs and smoked salmon for breakfast every morning.
"When I get my towel at the change of ends, when we change ends, I run up to pass my ball boy the towel. Just those two."
Watson screamed with joy as she won, watched from the stands by her brother Adam, sister-in-law Sarah and niece Sophia - while her parents Michelle and Ian and niece Lucy watched at home.
"Words can't really describe how I'm feeling at the moment," she said.
"I think it will sink in after I have a shower. I was a bit nervous but I felt great out there.
In a post-match press conference, she said she had been having trouble sleeping all week, adding: "But if I keep playing like this, I don't really mind."
