I AM writing to you as a parent but mostly as a concerned resident and Nuneaton voter.
The special meeting of the Nuneaton & Bedworth Area Committee of WCC was a total sham.
Called to discuss the reorganisation of secondary education in Nuneaton, the councillors supposedly listened to the views of the schools affected as well as concerned parents who made the effort to attend, and then ignored them completely.
It was quite obvious to anyone there that the resolutions voted on had been prepared in advance of the meeting.
Officials could be clearly seen circulating the typed documents whilst the discussion was continuing and comments were still being taken from the public.
Is this really how democracy works? If so, then it is not hard to believe why the turnout for local elections is so low.
What was equally disturbing was the assertion by one councillor that the decisions they take as an individual bear no regard to whether they will be re-elected next time around.
In my book that's the same as saying you don't care what the people who voted you in think!
There has been much talk in the press lately about how decisions made by councillors from the south of the county will have a negative effect on Nuneaton.
Maybe we should also be looking closer to home at the way our own councillors behave and asking them a few searching questions?
