It won't be cheap

BERT Deeming was the on site general foreman during the 1961-62 construction of Nuneaton town library and the main contractor was the local company Wincotts.

Bert was at the same time as the library was being built serving the local community as Mayor of Nuneaton.

So the town had one of the best local companies and one of the best general foremen around at the time to ensure a quality job was done building the library.

The Architect was the renowned Frederick Gibbered and the council appointed Clerk of Works was the respected Les Perkins.

However, if you are interested you should read the superb factual article by John Burton regarding all aspects of the bulding of the town library in March 15 2008 issue of the Heartland Evening News.

Support those who feel the existing town library should be retained, modernised and extended with the help of a top architect with input from librarians relating to modern needs in this computer age.

The external ashler stonework would, of course, benefit by cleaning and repointing using modern techniques.

The cost of modernising and extending of the existing library properly will not be cheap.

The cost of demolition and rebuilding the library possibly on a site not so convenient would cost much more.
