Duty of worship

WHILE sharing many of the sentiments of Peter Lee concerning disregard for heritage, I would like to remind him that the purpose of a church is a religious one, rather than an historical one.

There is a duty of worship and a duty to serve the community. We live in the 21st century and times have changed.

Criticism aimed at the church usually centres on its out of date image and accusations made that it is past its sell by date. In attempting to meet the needs of a modern world there is no alternative the church either changes or it does not survive as a going concern.

I have no desire to see St Nicolas become a redundant historical monument. Like so many other places of worship up and down the country.

As far as I can see the correct procedures were followed by the council. It seems strange that correct procedures are seen as suspect when one's own interests are not served.
