Kick start for bike hunts

A CRACKDOWN on nuisance bikers has been launched to tackle the theft and anti-social behaviour involving the vehicles.

Generic online news 1Operation Edenbridge is a new clampdown on off road motorbikes devised by the Nuneaton West Safer Neighbourhood Team.

Officers are targeting those who steal the bikes or cause a nuisance with the vehicles after an increase in problems being reported.

PC Mandy Butler is leading the way on the project and has been working with the Warwickshire Police specialist Proactive Policing Team.

The operation was activated at the weekend when the Off Road Motorcycle Team joined forces with officers and PCSOs from the Nuneaton West SNT, which covers the Kingswood and Barpool wards in Nuneaton.

A total of four off road bikes were seized and six Section 59 Notices were issued, but now people are being warned that the operation will continue.

PC Butler said: "This has been a very successful and satisfying day. I attend many community meetings in my role as a beat manager and the common theme in all of them is the anti-social use of these machines.

"Hopefully this operation demonstrates that Warwickshire Police is listening to those concerns and will take action to deal with them.

"The operation will continue until these people get the message that dangerous and anti-social behaviour will not be accepted and will be dealt with robustly."

The SNT are also working closely with Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council throughout the duration of the scheme.

Anyone who is a council tenant and caught being involved with anti-social behaviour could see their tenancy agreement affected.

PC Butler wants to make it clear that anyone who is caught may not only have their vehicle seized, but it could also be crushed and the individual could face prosecution.
