A MINI metal crime wave has hit Nuneaton and Bedworth with thieves targeting homes, schools and even churches on the hunt for lead.
In the past week alone the amount of metal thefts across the two towns has hit double figures, prompting police to warn people to look out for anyone acting suspiciously in their neighbourhoods.
A grand total of nine homes in Bedworth were hit within the space of just 24 hours, with lead flashing stolen from around bay windows.
As featured in the News, the Ramsden Centre in Attleborough was forced to close following the theft of lead flashing from its roof, as water seeped into the building rendering it unsafe.
It has since emerged that Attleborough Baptist Church and its adjoining buildings have also been targeted by thieves on the hunt for the metal, which has soared in price.
The former Manor Park School buildings in Beaumont Road also suffered water damage due to metres of lead flashing being stripped from part of its roof.
A spokesperson for Warwickshire Police Force told the news that local Safer Neighbourhood Teams (SNT) are investigating the thefts.
"Anyone who sees anything or anyone acting suspiciously should contact their local Safer Neighbourhood Team officers," the spokesperson added.
"We would also appeal to people to be vigilant around any buildings which may have metal features."
Officers did arrest two men, both aged in their 30s and live locally, on suspicion of metal thefts and they were taken into custody at Nuneaton Police Station.
They were questioned and later released on bail pending further enquiries.
Anyone with any information about lead thefts in their area or who may be responsible should contact their local SNT.
