Four on cable charges

COURT appearances await four men from Nuneaton charged with 30 separate offences of cable theft from the railway.

Generic Online News 2Two of the men, 22-year-old George Brunozzi-Jones and 19-year-old Flame Redshaw, have already pleaded guilty to conspiracy to steal the precious metal from Network Rail at locations throughout their home town.

However their time before the judge will have to wait until the outcome of two other men’s cases.

Dominic Wallis, aged 22, and John Gowland, who is 26, have pleaded not guilty to the same charges.

Wallis and Gowland will learn their fate on Monday, May 28 when they will appear at the Warwick Justice Centre in Leamington. The Crown Prosecution Service will then sentence Brunozzi-Jones and Redshaw for offences which took place between August 2010 and March 2011.

A spokesman for British Transport Police (BPT) confirmed the court date and the guilty and not guilty pleas to the Nuneaton News.

“British Transport Police can confirm that two men have pleaded guilty at Warwick Justice Centre in Leamington to conspiracy to steal railway cable from the railway lines in the Nuneaton area,” he said.

“George Brunozzi-Jones, 22, and Flame Redshaw, 19, both from Nuneaton, pleaded guilty to the charge, which relates to 30 separate offences that took place between 19 August 2010 and 31 March 2011.

“Two other men, Dominic Wallis, aged 22, and John Gowland, 26, pleaded not guilty to a charge of conspiracy to steal railway cable between the same dates.

“Wallis and Gowland,who are also both from Nuneaton, are due to face trial on Monday, 28 May 2012.”

Cable theft is classed as a serious crime which carries lengthy prison terms for those who are found guilty.As well as putting lives at risk and leaving rail users facing major disruption, it costs Network Rail millions of pounds to put right.
