Weird and Wonderful Items Reused

Climbing shoes, a pink Christmas tree, a piano and an abs trainer are just some of the things residents have given away via a reuse website.

www.freeuseit.org enables people to give or take items for free, preventing them from being sent to landfill.

Since it was set up in December 2009 by the LeicestershireWaste Partnership, which includes Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council, the website has helped find homes for around 93 tonnes of waste.

Guy Jackson, chairman of the partnership, said: “All sorts of items – some very practical and some a bit more quirky, have been found new homes thanks to www.freeuseit.org.

“The website has done a great job in helping to reduce the amount of waste that has been sent to landfill.”

Now a new phone application has also been rolled out for android phones, making it even easier to get Freeusing.

So why not do your bit, clean out some space in your home or garden and help stop waste.
